I thought I would give you a little taste of what Michaela’s visit was like…and share some more pictures.
The evening before we met them for a quick dinner at one of the diners they wanted to visit, literally 5 minutes from my house and I have never been there. It was pretty good, much better that expected…so far so good. They gave me some wine to chill and I told them to come over around 8…needed to get my kids to sleep. It was a lovely evening of talking and getting to know each other. The conversation flowed and it felt easy to be with them.
So Day1….we headed to Jersey City to another diner for breakfast….great food. It was delish. Then we headed to Liberty State Park to catch the ferry to the Island. Now for those of you who have never done this there is a lot of walking involved…and waiting. We bought the tickets and got in line for security checks. Melissa and Sara waited patiently while Sam and Max knocked over all the barriers and undid the ribbons that connect the barriers. While I patiently looked the other way and pretended they did not belong to me, I had to intervene before security did so I reeled them in. So we boarded the ferry and immediately it started…I’m hungry. wait a minute didn’t we just feed you a huge breakfast not even 1/2 an hour ago??? I distract them by telling them to look for the whale in the water. Luckily while they are searching for the elusive whale the ferry starts and we all have to sit. But eventually the ferry docks and they start with…I’m hungry again…drat!! I buy them each a bag of crap and we venture off the boat. Meanwhile Sara and Melissa barely say a word…I wonder if they were scared….LOL. We enter Ellis Island and they start again….I’m thirsty. For pete’s sake!! So I spend 32 dollars on a bottle of water while repeatedly saying no to Sam, no kitkat bar, no plain chocolate bar, no cheese popcorn…no…no…no…..Ok so they drink the water and we go to look at the exhibits… not 5 minutes later I hear….I have to pee……off we go to the bathroom….back we go to the exhibits. Luckily my kids can do a entire museum in just under 2 minutes as lingering is never an option….once again….I have to pee….I tell Michaela we will meet them at the ferry to the Statue. We get on the fairy and like clockwork….I’m hungry….I distract them by telling to look for the great white shark in the water. Luckily the trip is short, they all get hot dogs and away we go. We disembark and the next round begins….I’m tired….OMG!!! look kid…I am carrying a heavy camera, and 4 bottles of very expensive water…you walk. Guess what the answer to that is….NO…carry me!!!! Luckily my wonderful gives her bag to Greg and picks up the little princess…whew!!! We walk around to the front and find a grassy spot and collapse! The kids play tag we take a few pictures and away we go…..guess what…one of mine has to use the bathroom!!! I rush him back to cafe where they see food….bad idea….bathroom first!!!! Of course we have to go through the souvenir section to get to the bathrooms so they start with that….we want crap…I mean a souvenir!! I tell them after spending 24 dollars on hot dogs and 32 dollars on water they just ate the souvenirs. That clearly does not go over very well. Uh oh…dark clouds are rolling in….it is going to pour…we meet our friends and run to the ferry. Naturally there is a huge line. Just as the drops start we mange to move under the shelter…whew. So off we go back to the mainland. By the time we get there it is really poring…we run for the terminal. And again, I’m hungry….the bottomless pits are at it again. Hot pretzels and statue of liberty sunglasses for all and the rain stops. We walk back to the car. Rachel falls asleep and the boys start with he touched me…he touched me first….he poked me….he hit me…..I take aways their DS’s for life and try to smile and explain…they are just tired…they are really nice boys and I curse under my breath!! Finally get back to the hotel where I am sure they have all have headaches and need to break from us!!
Later they come over and we get some pizza, I make my kids go to bed and Greg Michaela Ben and I hit the wine again…thankfully Greg and Michaela stocked up!!! Amazingly enough they came back for more the next day….stay tuned….:)

phew, I’m exhausted just reading this, lol!! Did you really pay 32 bucks for water? You’re kids are still young, too young to appreciate all that you did for them. What fun pics, looking forward to more!
OMG that was such a funny read! And seriously, you make it sound much worse than it really was. Oh, and you know why MY kids were so good? They were exhausted from fighting in the car between TX and NJ!! LOL And they know better than to complain (too much), because I’m NOT going to feel sorry for them if their feet hurt or whatever.
My kids do the “I’m hungry” thing when we walk past the food court at the mall… see food, want food! Kids!
Love the pics! Sara was so proud to show off her pictures and movies. That last one is really cute, too. I have a similar one, but yours is much better.
LOL—I did exaggerate a bit for comic relief…LOL. The waters were not 32 dollars but they were expensive, I guess because they had special statue of liberty pictures on them…whatever!
You crack me up! I thought I was reading about my own kids when you were describing yours. LOL
I have a diner recommendation for you all, Tick Tock Diner in Clifton. We go there often, great eats. It was on that show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
So nice to know your kids are like mine;) I’ve known Michaela for something like 14 or 15 years. She overlooks our little imperfections (and our kids mistakes). I’m hoping you steal a second to snap one of Michaela to post;) I tried last year when she visited here, but I wasn’t able to.
My son Vance still talks about Sara. He wants a sister named Sara;)
So much fun to read your adventures and see your pictures;)
this is hysterical…what a funny write up of the trip… i guess you got the funny gene from dad…
LOL
